Cookie Policy overview

Effective date: 16 September 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how House of Dune (“we”, “us”, “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on our websites and online store (the “Services”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

By using the Services, you agree that we can store and access cookies and similar technologies as described in this policy. You can manage your preferences at any time (see How to manage cookies below).

1) What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you browse a website. They help the site function, remember your preferences, and understand how people use the site. We also use web beacons, pixels, and local storage, which work similarly.

2) Why we use cookies

We use cookies to:

  • Operate the store (security, checkout, cart, payment).

  • Improve performance (page speed, error diagnostics).

  • Understand usage (analytics and aggregated insights).

  • Personalise marketing (only if you consent or where permitted).

  • Remember choices (language, region, cookie preferences).

We aim to collect only what we need for a great shopping experience and business insights.

3) Types of cookies we use

A. Strictly necessary (essential)

Required for core functionality and security (cannot be switched off).

Examples: session ID, cart, checkout, payment, security, load balancing.

B. Performance & analytics

Help us understand how the site is used so we can improve it. Data is aggregated where possible.

Examples: Google Analytics 4 (GA4) event cookies.

C. Functional

Remember choices (e.g., region, currency, saved items) to improve your experience.

D. Advertising & social media

Used to show relevant ads, measure campaign performance, and prevent ad fatigue.

Examples: Meta Pixel, Google Ads, TikTok Pixel, Klaviyo tracking.

Note: Some third parties may use cookies over which we have limited control. See their privacy/cookie notices for details.

4) Cookies we commonly set (examples)

Because we are powered by Shopify, some cookies are set by Shopify and our payment providers to run the store and checkout securely.

5) Legal basis and jurisdiction

We primarily sell in Australia and New Zealand. There is currently no standalone “cookie law” in either country; however, the NZ Privacy Act 2020 and the Australian Privacy Act 1988 apply to our handling of personal information. Where required (e.g., if we offer services to the EU/UK in future), we will adapt our consent practices to meet GDPR/UK GDPR standards (see If you are visiting from the EU/UK or California below).

6) How to manage cookies

A. Our banner / preferences

  • You can accept cookies or update your preferences using our cookie banner or settings link in the footer (where available).

  • Essential cookies cannot be disabled as they are required for the Services to function.

B. Your browser

  • You can block or delete cookies via your browser settings (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge).

  • Blocking some cookies may impact site functionality (e.g., staying signed in, using the cart).

C. Third-party opt-outs (examples)

  • Google Analytics: You can use browser controls or Google’s opt-out tools.

  • Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Ads: Adjust ad preferences in your Meta account or device settings.

  • Google Ads: Adjust Ad Personalization in your Google account.

The availability and effectiveness of these tools are controlled by the providers.

7) Data retention

Cookie data is kept only as long as necessary for the purposes set out above. Retention periods vary by cookie type (e.g., session vs. persistent). Analytics data in GA4 is retained according to our GA retention settings. We periodically review and minimise retention wherever feasible.

8) International transfers

Because we are powered by Shopify and use global service providers, your information may be processed in countries other than where you live. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place (e.g., contractual protections). See our Privacy Policy for more details.

9) Children

Our Services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly use cookies to track children. If you believe a child has provided information via our Services, please contact us (see Contact below).

10) Do Not Track

Some browsers offer “Do Not Track” (DNT). There is no common industry standard for responding to DNT signals, so we do not currently respond to them. We will update this policy if standards emerge.

11) Updates to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to cookies we use or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We’ll post the updated version with a new Effective date. Material changes will be notified in accordance with applicable law.
